Classic beef burger recipe for you

Ingredients:
For the burger patties:
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80% lean is ideal)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
For assembling the burgers:
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices of cheese (American, cheddar, or your choice)
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced tomatoes
- Sliced red onions
- Pickles
- Ketchup and mustard (or your favorite condiments)
- Butter or oil for toasting buns
Instructions:
- Prepare the Patties:
- In a mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder (if using). Be careful not to overwork the meat to keep the burgers tender.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a patty. Make them slightly larger than the hamburger buns since they’ll shrink a bit during cooking. Create an indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent them from puffing up as they cook.
- Preheat your grill or stovetop skillet over medium-high heat.
- Cook the Patties:
- If grilling, oil the grates and place the patties on the grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare or longer for your desired level of doneness. Add a slice of cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt it.
- If using a skillet, add a little oil to the pan and heat it over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for the same amount of time as mentioned above, adding the cheese as well.
- Toast the Buns:
- While the patties are cooking, split the hamburger buns and lightly butter the cut sides. You can also use a little oil if you prefer. Toast them in a separate skillet or on the grill until they’re golden brown.
- Assemble the Burgers:
- Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun.
- Add a cooked patty with melted cheese on top of the lettuce.
- Layer on sliced tomatoes, red onions, and pickles.
- Spread ketchup and mustard (or your preferred condiments) on the top half of the buns.
- Place the top bun on the assembled ingredients to complete the burger.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Your classic beef burgers are now ready to be served! You can serve them with your favorite side dishes like fries, coleslaw, or a salad.
