Ingredients:

For the Meat Filling:

  • 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic
  • 2 diced carrots
  • 2 diced celery stalks
  • 1 cup of frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 cup of beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons of dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

For the Mashed Potatoes:

  • 4 large peeled and diced russet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup of whole milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:

  1. Place peeled and diced potatoes in a large pot of salted water.
  2. Bring water to a boil and cook potatoes until tender (about 15-20 minutes).
  3. Drain potatoes and return them to the pot.
  4. Add butter and milk to the pot with the potatoes.
  5. Mash until smooth and creamy, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside.

Prepare the Meat Filling: 6. Heat olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat.

  1. Add chopped onion and cook for about 2 minutes until translucent.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the cooked beef and stir to combine, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in diced carrots and celery and cook for 5 minutes until they begin to soften.

  7. Pour in beef broth and frozen peas, stirring until the mixture thickens. Simmer for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
